Awards Guidelines

Guidelines for the tnr Poetry Awards and The Louise E. Reynolds Memorial Fiction Awards

To honor Louise E. Reynolds, tnr’s founding manager, to reward tnr writers, and to promote quality writing, we have established two award programs:

Fiction:
1st place--$500; 2nd--$250; 3rd--$100
One Honorable Mention--$50

Poetry:
1st place--$250; 2nd--$125; 3rd--$50
Three to Four Honorable Mentions--$25 each

The awards are give for each 3-issue volume of tnr, and only writers published in that volume are eligible. Each volume has its own independent judges (writers or poets). All published writers receive our regular, nominal payment as well as a copy of the issue featuring their work.

Submitting periods:
January 2 – June 30th for fiction or poetry;
September 1 – October 31st, fiction only

How to submit:
Current subscribers—Send ms with SASE or IRC and $11.50 entry fee ($13.50 foreign). You may extend your subscription or receive two back issues.

All others—Send ms with SASE or IRC and $16.50 entry fee ($18.50 foreign). You may receive two back issues or one recent issue.

Please Note:
All poetry and fiction submissions to tnr are tied to our awards program. Mss without the accompanying fee will be returned unread.

Fiction: MSS from 2 to 36 pp. Translations always welcome (please include originals). Unless the fiction is 4 pp. or less, only one ms per submission, please. Submit as often as you like, but each submission requires an entry fee.

Poetry: 3-6 one-page poems; 2-4 two-page poems; only one long poem per submission. Submit as often as you like, but each submission requires an entry fee.
